Among the designated areas the P.G.I. Pangeon (established in 2000) nestles around Mount Pangaio in Kavala, characterized by a moderate mediterranean climate due to its mountain proximity from one side along with the proximity to the seaside from the other and the unique soils, resulting in wines with intensity, pleasant acidity, and aromatic complexity.
The P.G.I. Pangeon zone lies at altitudes between 50 and 500 meters, with vineyards planted on sloping terrain. The soils are primarily calcareous clay, with a pH of 6.5–7.5 and moderate calcium carbonate content, while organic matter remains at medium to low levels.
The grape varieties used include, for white wines, the indigenous Assyrtiko, Roditis, Malagousia, and Muscat of Alexandria, as well as the international Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Semillon, Viognier, and Gewürztraminer; for red wines, the indigenous Agiorgitiko, Limnio, and Pamidi, along with the international Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Rouge, Merlot, and Syrah; while for rosé wines, the indigenous Roditis, Agiorgitiko, Limnio, and Pamidi are complemented by the international Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Rouge, Carignan, Merlot, and Syrah.
